Dr. Powers attained an undergraduate degree in Accounting and spent the first 20 years of his career in various business roles.  After making the decision to change careers, he completed his physical therapy education from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in 2015. At graduation, he received The Stanley V. Paris and Catherine E. Patla Award for Excellence in Manual Therapy and The Most Outstanding Physical Therapy Student Award.
Dr. Powers worked in Adolescent Orthopedics in an outpatient center for Rady Children’s Hospital’s Sports 360 Program for the first 3 years focused on the evaluation and treatment of sports injuries, concussion, neurological impairments, and chronic pain.  During this time, he became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and spent a year completing a Certification in Concussion Management from Evidence in Motion.    
Dr. Powers switched physical therapy settings to work with the geriatric population in home health and has been in this field for 2 years.  He currently works per diem for two home health companies in North County, San Diego.  In an effort to further serve this population, Dr. Powers recently launched his own mobile physical therapy company, Empower Mobile Physical Therapy, focused on rehabilitation of those patients that remain homebound, but are no longer eligible for home health under Medicare Part A. Dr. Powers is also an adjunct faculty member in the Geriatrics curriculum at the University of St. Augustine.
When not treating, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two dogs, cycling, and outdoor recreation.
